Xelguard (ゼルガード) is a playable mecha from the Super Robot Wars series and appears as the protagonist machine of Super Robot Wars X.

Appearance[]

Xelguard bears a resemblance to a mechanical mage with a black mantle which resembles wings when Xelguard is at full output.

Technical and Historical[]

An Autowarlock developed by the Keepers or Order, Xelguard is fitted with mechanical magic squares to aid in spell casting. It can use speed-type Dogma but requires spatial magic squares for more powerful spell casting. Due to difficulty in handling and unstable magical power amplification, Xelguard's overall combat capabilities are dependent on the pilots' condition and inherent magical powers. Because of these inconveniences, Xelguard was placed in storage while the Deenbell was selected as the Keepers of Order's official Autowarlock. It is later revealed by Spero/Hopes that these flaws were intended in order to prepare the pilot to become the next Founder of the Keepers of Order. Like the Deenbell, Xelguard is fitted with a Magical Amplifier which forcefully draws out a pilots magic, however, there's no Limiter installed but the amplifier won't work if the sorcerer's magic is too low, In exchange, it makes it possible for Xelguard to draw out limitless powers depending on the pilot. It makes the pilot aware of their own magical powers and works to draw upon that. Xelguard is later revealed by Hopes that it was intended to be the vessel of Ende the Devourer's reincarnation, its form is presumed to change when fused with Ende's life and spirit.

Another version of Xelguard existed called Xelguard Mirror, created by Spero it was claimed to be superior to Xelguard in various ways but was still defeated by X-Cross.
