Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Inspector is a Japanese anime series, that retells the events from the Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2 game, a game that includes the original characters and mechs created by Banpresto for the Super Robot Wars franchise. This is not a prequel of Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Animation, but rather is in its own separate universe, with different events compared to even Super Robot Wars OG: Original Generations.

Story[]

The story starts out with the SRX destroyed as everyone is killed except Ryuusei by Kyousuke in a blue Alteisen. Ryusei shouts "Why would you do this?" to Kyousuke before he was killed by the Revolving Breaker (This is later shown to be taking place in the Shadow-Mirror world). Axel Almer in his Soulgain then prepare to battle for the blue Alteisen rushing towards him. The two fight in a heated battle as Kyosuke overpowers him but Axel counterattacks and manages to destroy his right arm. Axel is then shocked to see that the right arm of the Alteisen regenerates and the machine begins to mutate to a more demonic form. Soulgain and the mutated Alteisen continues the battle as Axel finishes him off with Kirin and lands in the Lykeios dimension jumper. Kyosuke charges at him but is halted as Axel initiates Genbu Kodan and teleported and the Lykeios self-destructs along with the base they were in leaving Kyosuke to die.

New AD 187, Brian Midcrid as the new Earth Federation president reminds of past history of battles and the L5 campaign while a battle breaks out between DC remenants (Divine Crusaders) and EFA (Earth Federation Alliance). DC sends in a Lion and Barrelion squad to turn the tide but the ATX team arrives to obliterate the forces. Two Guardlions along with a new special unit appears in battle to fight the ATX team until suddenly DC units were shot in battle by a mysterious mech. The skies turn bright as if it were an angel's decent (ironically it practically is one) as everyone gazes upon the machine that takes form of an angel. Everyone retreats and the mysterious unit is an ally on the EFA. Another mysterious unit also appears next to the enemy's battleship as she gives instructions. The pilot of the new SMSC Angelg comes out of the cockpit after the battle but notices her words are out of line whenever speaking. Meanwhile, the LTR organization is excavating at an China archaeological dig site where a Chokijin is being held. Archibald Grimms fires at the dig site claim the Chokijin for his own as he uses and excuse for firing at civillians: "we're at war". He confesses he loves unnecessary bloodshed, in terms he likes killing people.

The Shirogane arrives as the ATX team launches to stop the DC remenants from excavating the Chokijin. Suddenly, Bullet and Excellen feels a cold draft coming from dig site's mountain. DC's Yuuki Jagger and Ricarla Borgnine also feels the same thing, Bullet then cries out for DC to ceasefire on the civilians. The battlefield then turns cloudy all of a sudden while everybody questions what is happening, Lamia confirms it to be a spatial jump phenomenon. Multiple of unknown plant-like units appear around the mountain dig site as it spoke to Excellen and Kyosuke only: "we cannot let them awaken". Odd how nobody else heard them talking as the unknowns fire at the mountain triggering everyone on the battlefield weakening. The legendary Chokijin then reveals themselves and takes out all of the unknown, DC then takes damage from the attack and retreats. The Chokijin then leaves off to the unknown as Bullet faints.

At the Aidoneus Islands, South Pacific, EFA salvages a part of the White Death for the SRX project for unknown reason. Bullet investigates on the unknown units they encountered before while Kyosuke questions how Lamia knew it was a spatial jump just before they appeared. She answers the question with it was a simple intuition leaving Kyosuke puzzled that the Shirogane would have detected the jump. Meanwhile the SRX team is in a meeting for a mock battle to test out new prototypes (R-blade and the Wildfalken). DC then gets two new recruits (Seolla Schweitzer and Arado Balanga claiming themselves are from "the school". The mock battle commences in the next morning with Ryusei in the R-Blade vs. Latooni in the Wildfalken. Latooni shoots down his railgun as he pulls out his blade tonfas to counterattack with a plan. Ryusei manages to beat Latooni as the progress for the mass-production plans of the R-Blade continues. DC shows up on the radar as they pursue on the Wildfalken and battles the R-Blade and the Gespenst Mk-II (Kai). Seolla manages to pin the prototype down as she reunites with Latooni as they question why are they both on different sides. Seolla suddenly enters in a state where she shoots Latooni and enters in the Wildfalken as the DC escapes. The ATX team intervenes with the battle and ends it. Ryusei wonders why they only took the Wildfalken but not the R-Blade considering both machines are prototypes leaving them in confusion.

Differences to the Games[]

It can be seen that the anime was mostly based on the game Super Robot Wars OG: Original Generations. However, the anime has several plot differences compared to the game:

  • A new sequence was added to the beginning of the first episode, showing Beowulf in his Gespenst Mk-III wiping out the SRX Team and dueling Axel Almer in his Soulgain.
  • The original mecha and characters of Super Robot Wars R didn't make an appearance.
  • The Guarlion Custom "Mumyou" and the Valsion Kai Type-CF didn't make an appearance.
  • The Thrudgelmir appears very early on, fighting the ATX Team during their second battle against the Neue DC.
  • The Huckebein Series mecha didn't make an appearance. Therefore, in the anime, the Huckebein Series' development was said to have been frozen by TFA higher-ups, and they were substituted with other anime-original robots:
  • The Gunsect units used by the Inspectors were replaced with the Rest Gemiras.
  • The separate test runs of the R-Blade and the Wildfalken were merged into a mock battle between the two, which still resulted in the Wildfalken's capture by the Neue DC.
  • The Hiryuu Kai never went to the Moon after its rendezvous with the Hagane, hence the Moon Route of OG2 and OGs was completely omitted from the anime, with the events that took place in that route incorporated differently into the show.
  • After being taken in by the Hagane, Arado Balanga attempted his escape in a Mass-Production Wildschwein when a Neue DC squadron attacked the Hagane not long after Arado was rescued, bringing Latuni together with him. It is in this battle that Ouka Nagisa and her Rapiéçage made their first appearance. Arado's unit was recaptured by the Hagane after the battle and Arado was sent to the brig.
  • Right at the end of Ouka's debut battle, Axel Almer and his Soulgain finishes their teleportation from the Shadow-Mirror world to the OG world, instead of arriving during the L5 Campaigin a year ago like in the games. Axel and his damaged Soulgain attempted to attack Alteisen before collapsing, as the nearby R-Eins units retrieve the Soulgain back to their base. Axel then proceeds to use the Ashsaviour for subsequent battles until his Soulgain is fully repaired.
  • Lee Linjun and the Shirogane never defected to Shadow-Mirror and remained with the TFF.
  • A new plot sequence was added, detailing how the ATX Team, Latune Subbota and Raidiese F. Branstein were sent to the Duchy of Riksent as security for the Earth Environmental Summit that is taking place there. The Duchy was soon attacked and taken over by Neue DC forces, who were trying to capture princess Shine Hausen, but Gilliam Yeager and the Gespenst Type-R he hid in the castle made it in the nick of time and rescued Shine, Latuni and Rai, followed by Kyousuke and Excellen in their machines. The Gespenst Mk-II Type-SA made its first ever debut in this episode, which is the Gespenst Mk-II Type-S modified to resemble the Alteisen and piloted by Kyousuke, due to the Alteisen undergoing maintenance.
  • Tasuku Shinguuji's Giganscudo and Leona Garstein's Guarlion Custom had already been upgraded into the Giganscudo Duro and the Siegerlion respectively when the Inspectors launched their first assault on the Solar System. They provided support for the transport ship that was trying to escape from Mao Industries' moon base alongside Lune Zoldark's Valsione. The Exbein and its combined forms also made their debut during this battle.
  • The Izu Route of OG2 and OGs was completely omitted from the anime, with the events that took place in that route incorporated differently into the show.
  • During the Steel Dragon Squadron's battle to reclaim Riksent, the Gravilion made its first appearance, piloted by Archibald Grimms, emerging from within Archibald's damaged Rhinoceros. It was defeated through a combined effort of the Steel Dragon Squadron and the new Fairlions, however Archibald managed to escape. Arado did not participate in this battle as he was still locked in the brig.
  • The Zweizergain debuted at the beginning of Operation Plantagenet, during the takeover of Izu Base.
  • Excellen Browning and her Weissritter were captured by the Einst at the end of Operation Plantagenet.
  • After discovering about her true identity, Mai Kobayashi ran away in the R-Gun Powered and was intercepted by DC forces, which includes the debuting Sol Gravilion. It was destroyed with a single blast from SRX's Tenjou Tenga Ichigeki Hissatsu Hou however.
  • The Einst Regisseur and Rein Weissritter made their appearance during the Einst's attack on Winnepeg City as well as on Earth military bases and the White Star right after Operation Plantagenet, prompting the Hiryuu Kai to scramble and intercept them. RyuuOuKi and KoOuKi also reappears in the battle and merges with Brooklyn Luckfield and Kusuha Mizuha's Grungust Type-3, forming RyuuKoOu/KoRyuuOu, allowing the Steel Dragon Squadron to defeat Einst Regisseur.
  • The Head to Space Route of OG2 and OGs was completely omitted from the anime, with the events that took place in that route incorporated differently the show.
  • The entire Steel Dragon Squadron participates in the all-out assault on the Earth Cradle. Seolla Schweitzer successfully regains her memories and fights alongside Arado to defeat Egret Ansuz and Egret Thurisaz in their Bergelmirs outside the Earth Cradle, while Egret Fehu and Egret Urz flee in advance.
  • The SRX Team, Razangriff, Randgriz, Siegerlion and Aussenseiter takes on Archibald Grimms in a reproduced Gravilion while the Wildwurger, Wildfalken and the Fairlions battle Ouka Nagisa in her Rapiéçage Fantome. After a long struggle, the Gravilion was finally defeated through a joint effort from the heroes, with Rai delivering the final blow with a punch from his R-2 Powered.
  • Instead of installing a personality backup into Ouka before the battle, Dr. Cuervo Cero had to enter the Rapiecage's cockpit mid-battle to install the memory chip into Ouka with help from the Wildwurger, receiving fatal wounds from the Rapiecage in the process. He succumbed to his injuries after giving one last defying speech to Águila Setme.
  • After losing in his showdown with Sänger Zonvolt, Wodan Ymir used his Thrudgelmir to rescue Sophia Nate and entrust her to Sanger. He then attempted to fight Águila Setme's reproduced Machine Cell-infused Sol Gravilion, but Águila disabled the Thrudgelmir's own Machine Cells, causing the mecha to crumble to pieces and killing Wodan. The Sol Gravilion was finally destroyed by the Rapiecage Fantome's Ash To Ash sequence like in the games.
  • The last confrontations of the show took place outside of the White Star instead of inside.
  • Mekibos Bolverde never regarded humanity as highly as in the games.
  • Wendolo Bolverde ended up getting possessed by the Einst, which also caused his Dikastes to mutate into an Einst-like form. It was defeated through a consecutive attack with Grungust's Keito Ragou Ken, DyGenGuar's Zankantou - Raikou-Giri and SRX's Tenjou Tenga Nendou Bakusai Ken.
  • Stern Neu Regisseur has a different appearance in this work, boasting a considerably smaller size and resembling a plant growing from the White Star. It was defeated using SRX's Tenjou Tenga Ichigeki Hissatsu Hou and the Dynamic General Guardians' Tatsumaki Zankantou - Ikki Tousen attack.
  • After Stern Neu Regisseur's defeat comes Einstwulf, warping from the Shadow-Mirror world to the OG world. It absorbs energy from the destroyed Regisseur, the surrounding Einst units and from the White Star before evolving into Neuwulf. It also generates (mostly) counterparts of various mecha from the Steel Dragon Squadron to aid him, which includes:
  • Neu GK: Based on Banpresto's first ever original character, Great Kaminarimon. Defeated through a combined effort from Katina and Russel's Mass-Production Gespenst Mk-IIs, Siegerlion and Giganscudo Duro.
  • Neu SRX: Based on SRX. Defeated through a combined effort from the Randgriz Raven, Razangriff Raven, SRX and Guarbein Mk-III - Exbein Boxer - AM Gunner's Full Impact Cannon - Dead End Shoot attack.
  • Neu Grungust: Based on Grungust. Defeated through a combined effort from the Fairlions, Wildwurger, Wildfalken, and Grungust's Keito Ragou Ken - Ankensatsu attack.
  • Neu Cybuster: Based on Cybuster. Defeated through a combined effort from the Astelion, Valsione, and Cybuster's Cosmo Nova attack.
  • Alteisen Riese, Rein Weissritter, RyuuKoOu, Soulgain, Vaisaga and Granzon, later joined by the Alfimi in her Personlichkeit, teleports to confront the Neuwulf, with help from the Zweizergain's head's Agyieos System hooked with Gilliam Jaeger. RyuuKoOu and Vaisaga swiftly defeats the 2 Alteisen clones created by Neuwulf. Soulgain sucessfully lands a hit on Neuwulf with its Genbu Kongoudan but was blown away soon after. Alteisen Riese attempts to head in for the finisher as Rein Weissritter provides covering fire but the Revolving Bunker runs out of ammo, and would have been destroyed by Neuwulf's beam cannon if not for Personlichkeit pushing the Riese out of the way, with Alfimi perishing alongside her mecha. Now absolutely enraged, Kyousuke with his Alteisen charges in and slams the Revolving Bunker into Soulgain's Genbu Kongoudan that was stuck inside Neuwulf's chest, crushing the Neuwulf's core and killing Beowulf for good, as the Neuwulf burns up in the atmosphere. The Inspector War comes to a close.
