The Hiryuu Kai (ヒリュウ改 | Flying Dragon Custom) is a Banpresto Original Mecha debuting in Super Robot Wars Original Generation. It was modified from the Hiryuu (ヒリュウ).
Technological & Historical[]
OG Series[]
The Hiryuu was constructed as humanity's first manned interstellar cruising ship, as part of the Space Exploration Project established in a joint collaboration between the Tesla Reich Institute and the Space Development Corporation in NAD 172. The ship was installed with a prototype Tesla Drive, developed by a research team at the Tesla Reich Institute led by Professor Bian Zoldark, which has the capability of separating gravity from mass, and in turn uses it to accelerate propellant, creating a high-efficiency reaction propulsion system suitable for interstellar cruising. After finishing operational tests in geospace, the Hiryuu, commandeered by Daitetsu Minase as the Captain and Sean Webley as the XO, finally set out on its voyage, accompanying the construction fleet meant for the erection of the Jupiter Energy Fleet relay station Icarus at the Solar System's Asteroid Belt. After arriving at the Asteroid Belt, the Hiryuu parted ways with the construction fleet and continued on its journey. In NAD 179, the Hiryuu has finally made it past Pluto's orbit, marking humanity's first advancement beyond the Solar System, but unfortunately the ship has unknowingly breached a "barrier" (according to Euzeth Gozzo in OGs) which prevented extraterrestial forces from entering the Solar System, subsequently leading to the Hiryuu, and the mobile weapon Giganscudo that served as its envoy, coming under attack from an armada of Megillots released from Nevi'im. The Hiryuu, after sustaining severe damage along with numerous casualties, miraculously managed to retreat back to Icarus Base in one piece.
In preperation of future confrontations with alien forces, the damaged Hiryuu at Icarus Base received a major overhaul based on Integrated Synchronizing Attack tactics (blitzkrieg attack performed by an aerial mobile mothership and the humanoid mobile weapons it carries), and was reborn as the Hiryuu Kai. It was installed with various EOT, such as an enhanced Tesla Drive and its Bow Super Gravity Impact Cannon. Sean Webley remained at his XO position while genius Icaros Base Astro-Military Academy graduate Lefina Enfield, whom Sean himself recommended, serves as the new Captain of the ship. The Octopus Platoon was later stationed here.
The ship's callsign is Dragon 2.
SRW OG1/SRW OGs1[]
The Hiryuu Kai began a new journey from Icarus Base back to Earth with a brand-new crew at the helm, in order to pick up the ATX Team and head to Antartica as security for the TFF's unveiling ceremony of the Shirogane (in fact a secret meeting between the TFF and the Guests). The "ceremony" went horribly wrong due to the betrayal of Shu Shirakawa, but before the Hiryuu Kai can reach its destination to provide support, the ship was intercepted by enemy Megillots. Through the cooperation of the ATX Team, the Octopus Squadron, along with the temporary assistance of the Cybuster, the Megillots were taken care of. The Hiryuu Kai then arrived at Langley Base and had the ATX Team officially assigned to it, before staying there to defend the base from various DC raids with the outbreak of the DC War, but was later forced to abandon the base when the DC launched an entire MAPW at the base, completely annihilating it. The crew of the Hiryuu Kai then ascended to space in order to deal with the United Colony Corps, achieving numerous victories such as retaking the vital Columna Space Station from the UCC and besting the elite Treue Unit in combat. After picking up Viletta Vadim's R-Gun along the way and the Huckebein Mk-II at the Moon Cradle, the Hiryuu Kai crew utilized the opening brought by the mobilization of the UCC's primary fleet for their Earth descent operation to breach through the thinly-protected defense line at Space Colony Elpis. From there, the Hiryuu Kai headed straight towards the UCC's primary fleet just above Earth's orbit to engage in a final showdown, which ended with the destruction of UCC flagship Macht and the death of UCC Supreme Commander Maier V. Branstein, effectively concluding the space theatre of the DC War.
Following the DC War, the Hiryuu Kai took part in the L5 Campaign, up until Operation SRW to destroy the Aerogaters' planetoid fortress Nevi'im. In Ryuusei Route, the Hiryuu Kai held position outside of Nevi'im while the Kurogane infiltrated the fortress along with their mobile weapon squadron to defeat the Aerogater commanders. In Kyousuke Route, the Hiryuu Kai joined the Hagane in piercing through the Nevi'im barrier with their bow energy cannons, followed by both ships holding their position outside while their mobile weapon squadrons infiltrate the fortress. The Hiryuu Kai participated in the final battle against Septuagint at Aidoneus Island in both routes, along with either the Hagane or the Kurogane depending on the route.
SRW OG2/SRW OGs2[]
In OG2, the Hiryuu Kai first reappeared in Stage 9, engaging Megillots along with missing Mass-Production Huckebein Mk-IIs piloted by Bioroids. It later faced Einst enemies when en route to the Moon Cradle, Inspector Vigagi's Galgau at the Moon Cradle, and the rest of the Inspectors near Nevi'im. During the route splits, the ship headed to Izu Base, and then to the Earth Cradle. The ship remained in service against Neue DC, Inspector, Shadow Mirror and Einst forces all the way until the end of the eventual 4-way conflict of OG2. In OGs2, the Hiryuu Kai made its first reappearance in the additional scenario "For Whom a Shield" (Stage 15), where it was present during the Giganscudo's upgrade event into the Giganscudo Duro.
SRW OGs2.5/SRW OGG[]
On its way to the space fortress Hellgate, the Hiryuu Kai entered combat with several Bartolls, before encountering the Shura and Duminas' group, before regrouping with the rest of the Steel Dragon Squadron. After putting an end to the Bartoll Incident, the Hiryuu Kai participated in more battles against the Shura, Duminas' group, Dark Brain and Neo Granzon.
2nd SRW OG[]
Due to the Surface Dweller Summoning Incident, the Hiryuu Kai was teleported in the underground world of La Gias and caught up in the Langran-Stedonias war. It initially stayed by General Kirks Xan Valhalevia's side in fending off against the Stedonias invaders, and while they were successful in pushing back Stedonias, Kirks' ambition of leading his own troops to revolt against Prince Feillord and take over Langran, and eventually the entirety of La Gias, caused the Hiryuu Kai's crew to turn against him. The ship's crew managed to defeat Kirks' Eureed in combat, ending the conflict, and it was returned back to the surface along with the Hiryuu Kai.
SRW OGMD[]
In Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers, after the installation and successful testing of Zuvorg Alliance spatial warp device on the Hiryuu Kai, Hagane also received and installed a Zuvorg Alliance spatial warp device sent by Special Envoy Mekibos Bolverde. With both Steel Dragons Squad's battleships equipped with the spatial warp device, the Steel Dragons Squad can easily and rapidly deploy anywhere on Earth to deal with future threats against Earth and its people.
