The Hagane is a Banpresto Original Mecha first mentioned in Super Robot Wars Alpha Original Story, before properly debuting in Super Robot Wars Original Generation. It is the second Space Noah-class battleship created, and one of the 3 motherships of the Steel Dragon Squadron.
Technological and Historical[]
Alpha Series[]
SRW Alpha Original Story[]
First appearance. Since this Drama CD is essentially a prototype version of SRW OG1, its role in the story is the same.
3rd SRW Alpha[]
Although the Hagane did not appear directly in any Alpha games as a unit, a model of it can be seen in Noriko Takaya's room.
OG Series[]
With the threat of hostile extraterrestrial lifeforms becoming apparent with the battle at Pluto's orbit and the descent of Meteor-3, the Terra Federation Forces set out to build specialized anti-alien battleships, later known as the Space Noah-class. Ships of this class were constructed using the Super Drag Alloy, giving them excellent durability to operate within atmosphere, in outer space or under deep sea, in addition to withstanding normal combat. A gigantic cone-shaped Tesla Drive mounted on the rear is utilized for basic levitation, while primary propulsion is provided by the 8 main rocket engines surrounding it. When escaping the atmosphere or during an emergency, the Tesla Drive and rocket engines can be pushed to full power and provide maximum thrust, a process known as "Overboost". Particularly, Space Noah-class ships excel in ISA (Integrated Synchronizing Attack) tactics, involving a mobile mothership capable of rapidly deploying and working with humanoid mobile weapons to carry out blitzkrieg attacks on enemy positions. Regarding the development of the Space Noah-class, there were 2 main polar opinions, which were to either purpose the ships as escort for the Earth Escape Fleet, or as Personal Trooper-loaded anti-alien combat motherships. In order to undermine the Earth Escape Project favored by politicians, the Space Noah-class developers gave the ships combat capabilities as proposed with the Earth Sphere Defense Project. As a result of these two overlapping opinions, the ships were designed with a swappable bow module system, allowing them to quickly and flexibly fulfill various roles as the situation dictates.
The Hagane is the second Space Noah-class battleship created, equipped with the powerful Tronium Buster Cannon bow module. It temporarily had its bow module switched to a large catapult type similar to the Shirogane's when the TBC module was being adjusted during OG2/OGs2. The ship's callsign is Steel 2.
SRW OG1/SRW OGs1[]
The Hagane was going through final modifications at Izu Base by the time of the DC War's outbreak, and was finished just in time to defend the base from a DC raid led by Elzam V. Branstein. The Hagane crew served as the Federation's spearhead force during the DC War, crossing through the Pacific Ocean all the way to the DC headquarters at Aidoneus Island, besting many of the DC's most elite squadrons along the way. During the showdown at Aidoneus Island, the Hagane attempted to wipe out the HQ's primary building with a single Tronium Buster Cannon blast, only to miss the shot due to a direct hit from the Kurogane's Giant Rotating Ram, forcing the Hagane to hold position outside the fortress as the ship's mobile weapon squadron infiltrate the fortress to personally defeat DC Supreme Commander Bian Zoldark's Valsion, which they succeeded at, bringing the DC War to a close. The ship was repaired and soon participated in the following L5 Campaign, up until Operation SRW to destroy the Aerogaters' planetoid fortress Nevi'im.
In Ryuusei's Route, during the latter part of the operation, the Hagane received a direct hit on its bow from the Ezekiel Adom's Orga Cannon when charging the Tronium Buster Cannon to break through Nevi'im's barrier, drastically reducing its firing range. Captain Daitetsu Minase planned to have all personnel evacuate from the ship so that he could fire the TBC at point-black range with all limiters removed, taking the Nevi'im's barrier along with the Hagane's destruction. XO Tetsuya Onodera refused to accept such a proposal however, and instead suggested that the Hagane fire the TBC at point-blank range while simultaneously purging the bow module, keeping the ship in one piece. Thus, the daring plan was carried out, which succeeded in piercing Nevi'im's surrounding barrier and obliterating the Ezekiel Adom. The crew of the damaged Hagane then switched to the Kurogane to continue with their showdown inside Nevi'im, before engaging in the final battle against Septuagint at Aidoneus Island along with the Hiryuu Kai.
In Kyousuke's Route, the Hagane joined the Hiryuu Kai in piercing through the Nevi'im barrier with their bow energy cannons, followed by both ships holding their position outside while their mobile weapon squadrons infiltrate the fortress. Since the Hagane did not receive damage from the Ezekiel Adom in this route, it was still capable of participating in the Septuagint battle on Aidoneus Island in place of Ryuusei's Route's Kurogane.
SRW OG2/SRW OGs2[]
After the L5 Campaign, the Hagane continued to battle DC remnants around the world. During this time, it was temporarily fitted with a catapult-type bow module similar to the Shirogane's, taken from the fourth Space Noah-class ship still under construction, prompting the Hagane's crew to nickname the ship "Shiro-Hagane". It regained the TBC module just before the battle to recapture the Duchy of Riksent from Neue DC. The Hagane remained in service against Neue DC, Inspector, Shadow Mirror and Einst forces up until Operation Plantagenet, when it sustained major damage from the Shadow Mirror's captured Shirogane, commandeered by Federation defector Lee Linjun. Though the ship managed to escape utilizing the recoil generated from firing the TBC, Captain Daitetsu was killed in action, while the Hagane was rendered incapable of combat. Inheriting Daitetsu's legacy, XO Tetsuya then took over as the Hagane's new captain, as the ship's crew once again switched over to the Kurogane to carry on with their fight, while the Hagane was taken care of by the Kurogane's crew.
SRW OGs2.5/SRW OGG[]
Following the 4-way conflict of OG2, the Hagane was repaired once more and returned to duty, now with Tetsuya as its new captain. It and its crew were first seen sweeping out DC remnants (while also witnessing a Mironga in combat) before arriving to support the ATX Team against the Bartoll swarm at Asakusa. It later fought against Kyle Bean's Mironga and Bartoll squadron at Dalian, before reaching the Hellgate in space along with the Hiryuu Kai to take out the Valsion Kai Type-CF and end the Bartoll Incident. After that, the Steel Dragon Squadron engaged in more battles against the Shura, Duminas' group, Dark Brain and Neo Granzon.
2nd SRW OG[]
Due to the Surface Dweller Summoning Incident, the Hagane was teleported in the underground world of La Gias and caught up in the Langran-Stedonias war. It initially stayed by Prince Feillord Gran Bilseia's side in fending off against the Stedonias invaders, and while they were successful in pushing back Stedonias, Feil's decision to immediately have Langran annex Stedonias right after caused the Hagane's crew to turn against him. The ship's crew managed to defeat Feil's Duraxyll in combat, ending the conflict, and it was returned back to the surface along with the Hiryuu Kai.
SRW OGMD[]
In Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers, after the installation and successful testing of Zuvorg Alliance spatial warp device on the Hiryu Kai, Hagane also received and installed a Zuvorg Alliance spatial warp device sent by Special Envoy Mekibos Bolverde. With both Steel Dragons Squad's battleships equipped with the spatial warp device, the Steel Dragons Squad can easily and rapidly deploy anywhere on Earth to deal with future threats against Earth and its people.
Known Ship Crew[]
Current[]
- Ginto Kitaumi (3rd Captain)
- Tetsuya Onodera (Executive Officer; former 2nd Captain)
- Eita Nadaka (Operator)
- Azuki Sawa (Operator)
Former[]
- Daitetsu Minase (former 1st Captain; KIA)
- Rio Mei Long (former Operator)
Armaments[]
- Anti-Air Autocannon (対空機関砲 | Taikuu Kikanhou)
Twin-barrelled anti-air turrets mounted around the ship used to intercept enemies within close proximity. Two of them are located on the upper conning tower, two more next to the bow underside Secondary Batteries, and the last pair right in front of the ship's catapults (the grey protrusions just below the deck Impact Cannons). From 2nd OG, the catapult guns have been relocated to the bow topside, near the Tronium Buster Cannon convergers.
- Chaff Grenade (チャフグレネード)
A special projectile used to reduce enemies' accuracy.
- Bow Torpedo (艦首魚雷 | Kanshu Gyorai)
Torpedoes fired from launching tubes located at the bow, right below the Tronium Buster Cannon convergers.
- Homing Missile (ホーミングミサイル)
Missiles fired from VLS launchers built in the Hagane's side wings. Has high accuracy.
- Secondary Battery (連装副砲 | Rensou Fukuhou)
The Hagane's secondary weapons, twin-barreled cannon batteries firing solid ammunition. 4 of them are mounted on the bow.
- Twin Impact Cannon (連装衝撃砲 | Rensou Shougekihou)
The Hagane's primary weapons, an array of large-caliber twin-barrelled beam cannons. A total of 7 cannons can be seen, with 3 on the deck, 2 on the side wings and 2 below the ship. Only the 2 upper deck cannons are used during battle animations. ALLW Attack from OGs onwards.
- Tronium Buster Cannon (トロニウム・バスターキャノン)
The Hagane's ultimate weapon, a powerful Tronium-powered heavy metal particle cannon fitted onto the ship's swappable bow module. Often used as the ship's ace-in-the-hole. When firing at full power without the support of gravity brakes, the energy generated from the cannon could even decimate the Hagane itself, but this can be prevented by simultaneously purging the bow module or deploying a powerful E-Field on the front of the ship, a tactic utilized many times by the Hagane crew.
Special Equipment[]
- Tesla Drive (テスラドライブ)
A device capable of separation between gravitational and inertial mass and provide spatial propulsion by spreading action points throughout a specialized T-Dot Array field. Standard equipment on many mobile weapons. Reflected in-game as the Hagane's flight capability.
- E-Field (Eフィールド)
Short for Energy Field. Protective energy barrier deployed around the ship for defense. Reflected in-game as a Special Ability.
