Gurren Lagann, known in Japan as Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (天元突破グレンラガン, Tengen Toppa Guren Ragan?, literally "Heaven Shattering Crimson Face") is a Japanese Super Robot shōnen mecha anime television series animated by Gainax and co-produced by Aniplex and Konami. It ran for twenty-seven episodes on Japan's TV Tokyo between April 1, 2007 and September 30, 2007. It is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, written by veteran playwright Kazuki Nakashima and has been in development since the participation of the famed animator in the Abenobashi mecha themed episodes by the same studio.
Licensing for a North American release of Gurren Lagann was announced by ADV Films at AnimeExpo 2007 on June 30, 2007; however, after an unexplained removal from ADV's catalog, Bandai Entertainment announced it held the license at New York Comic Con 2008.[1] It was also announced for a UK release by ADV Films at AmeCon 2007, however at AmeCon 2008 Beez Entertainment announced that they had the UK distribution rights instead. It was also announced by ADV Films Germany for a summer 2008 release. The Sci Fi Channel acquired the broadcasting rights of Gurren Lagann, and began airing the anime on July 28, 2008 as part of Sci Fi's Ani-Monday anime block.
A manga adaptation started serialization in MediaWorks' Dengeki Comic Gao! on April 27, 2007, but switched over to ASCII Media Works' manga magazine Dengeki Daioh on April 21, 2008 due to the former being discontinued on February 27, 2008. Bandai Entertainment licensed the manga and will be releasing it in English in North America. A series of light novels have also been created and are published by Shogakukan. A video game based on the series, for the Nintendo DS, was released in October 2007, bundled with a special episode of the anime series. An animated film version premiered in Japanese theaters on September 6, 2008, and a second movie has been announced.
This series has been heavily requested by fans to be represented in a Robot Wars game before finally joining in Super Robot Wars Z2: Hakai-Hen in 2011. They remained for the rest of the Z series, and also returned in Super Robot Wars X and the mobile game Super Robot Wars X-Omega.
Plot[]
Gurren Lagann takes place in a fictional future where Earth is ruled by the Spiral King, Lordgenome, who forces mankind to live in isolated subterranean villages. These villages have no contact with the surface world or other villages, and are under constant threat of earthquakes. Selected villagers called diggers are conscripted to expand their homes deeper underground. Simon, a meek young digger ostracized by his peers, finds solace in his best friend and older brother figure, an eccentric delinquent named Kamina. Kamina encourages Simon to join his gang, Team Gurren, to help him achieve his dream of visiting the surface world. One day, Simon unearths a drill-shaped key called a Core Drill, followed by a small mecha resembling a face called a Gunmen. Shortly thereafter, a giant Gunmen crashes through the ceiling and begins attacking the village, followed by a girl named Yoko who attempts to repel the Gunmen. Simon uses his Core Drill to activate the smaller Gunmen (which Kamina names Lagann), and it is used to destroy the larger Gunmen and break through to the surface world.
Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood's End[]
Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood's End (known in Japan as 劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 紅蓮篇 (Gekijōban Tengen Toppa Guren Ragan Guren Hen) or Film Version Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: The Crimson Lotus Chapter), or simply Gurren-hen, is the first Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann movie. It is based on the first half of the original TV series, from episodes 1 to 11, with elements of episodes 12, 13, and 14 added in for the sake of brevity.
Using footage from Parallel Works episode 8, and narration alternating between the Anti-Spiral and Lordgenome, the tale of the fall of the Spiral races and the rise of the Spiral King and the Beastmen is recounted.

Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Lights in the Sky are Stars (known in Japan as 劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 螺巌篇 (Gekijōban Tengen Toppa Guren Ragan Ragan Hen) or Film Version Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: The Spiral Stone Chapter), or simply Lagann-hen, is the second Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann movie and the sequel to Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood's End. It is based on the second half of the series, from episodes 15 through to 27.
The film begins with Spiral King Lordgenome telling Simon and Nia that although they feel they are on the side of righteousness, that he is the true protector of humanity. The Battle for Teppelin has been ongoing to the seventh day now. The battle unfolds around Dekabutsu. Nia, her hair shorter now than at the end of Childhood's End, is awoken by Boota licking her. Looking up, Simon in Lagann is being beaten into the ground by her father Lordgenome. Simon cannot produce drills anymore; his Spiral Energy is exhausted. Despite Nia's pleas that Simon win because she believes in him, Lordgenome rips of Lagann's arms with a crazed laugh.
Seven years have passed since the fall of Teppelin, and Kamina City has expanded greatly. Nia is writing a letter to Kamina in her diary, even though he is dead (though she acknowledges that). She always feels like talking to him when she sees his statue in the middle of Kamina City. She explains that Simon is doing his best as Supreme Commander (though he looks distinctly weary of all the paperwork to sign). She mentions Rossiu getting angry at the Team Dai-Gurren members who are in the New Government, and she says that he can occasionally get irritating with his seriousness. Yoko, it seems, left a year after the fall of Teppelin, and told Nia (and apparently, only Nia) that she is now a school teacher, teaching children about hope for the future. Makken and Leyte have gotten married and had three kids, and Leyte's still as strong as ever. Also, Dayakka and Kiyoh got married and had a little baby girl. Nia concludes her letter by asking Kamina if this city named after him has lived up to the dreams he had for humanity, and if his dreamed future and their actual future are the same.
The main event begin when suddenly Nia become Anti-Spiral Propeth and inform the earth will be annihilated. But Simon disagree then fly to the moon to stop the destruction and save Nia from Anti-Spiral.
