The Grungust Type-0 (グルンガスト零式 | Grungust Reishiki) is a Banpresto Original Mecha debuting in Super Robot Wars Original Generation. Part of the Grungust Series, it was developed into the Grungust in OG.
Technological & Historical[]
Created by the Tesla Reich Institute at the request of the Earth Sphere Defense Committee, the Grungust Type-0 serves as the starting point of the Grungust Series. It is classified as a Super Robot, or Special Unit, developed to counter large enemy mobile weapons too powerful for standard Personal Troopers to handle. To fulfill this task, the Type-0 was made with a gigantic body, covered with thick armor. The mecha uses flexible Variable Geometric Alloy in its construction to aid in sword-fighting motions, as well as stress-reducing TGC Joints equipped with gravity-manipulating devices, which will all be later inherited by the next generation Grungusts (particularly in their transformation system). On its back is an array of numerous thrusters and Trim Boosters of various sizes to accommodate for the Type-0's large mass as well as to aid in executing sword techniques. Although Grungust Series robots are designed with large shoulders meant to install jet turbines and the likes, the Type-0's oversized shoulders are only meant for intimidation purposes against enemies and is essentially just a decoration. A Nuclear Fusion Reactor taken from a TFA space navigation ship is used as the mecha's power source, which grants the Type-0 the ability to escape the atmosphere unassisted. It was later replaced with an even more powerful and cutting-edge Plasma Reactor used by other Grungust Series robots after the L5 Campaign. The Type-0 uses a TC-OS interface system, with much of the Motion Data developed by skilled swordsman Rishuu Tougou. The completed machine was then tuned specifically for Major Sänger Sombold's use.

SRW OG/SRW OGs1[]
In Kyousuke Route, the Grungust Type-0 debuted in Episode 3, arriving to support Brooklyn Luckfield in protecting a Tausendfuessler from a Megillot ambush alongside Kyousuke Nanbu and Excellen Browning's Mass-Production Gespenst Mk-IIs. After the destruction of the Langley Base at the hands of DC forces (Stage 7), the Hiryuu Kai crew, who had successfully escaped the base, headed towards the Manhattan Meteor Crater in order to regroup with TFA forces, only to find out that the allied forces waiting there had all been wiped out by a DC ambush. The Hiryuu Kai mecha team soon deployed into action, with Sanger and his Grungust Type-0 encountering Elzam V. Branstein's Guarlion Trombe (Stage 8). Sanger is at first perplexed at Elzam's actions in joining the DC, but soon understood Bian Zoldark's true intentions in declaring war, which prompted Sanger to defect to the DC/Colony Integrated Army, bringing the Type-0 with him, in order to train both himself and the Hiryuu Kai/Hagane crew in anticipation of the aliens by facing each other in battle. As part of the DC/Integrated Army, Sanger and the Type-0 would duel with the Hiryuu Kai/Hagane crew on many occasions, especially against Kyousuke Nanbu's Alteisen. It is during this period that the Grungust Type-0 would make its first debut in Ryuusei Route, in Stage 26. During the Hiryuu Kai/Hagane crew's final battle against remnant DC forces (Stage 28), the Type-0 arrived to lend a helping hand, seeing that the current DC lead by Adler Koch is now no more than a shadow of its former self. Joining the Kurogane crew, Sanger and the Grungust Type-0 cooperated with the Hagane/Hiryuu Kai crew and fought until the end of the L5 Campaign.
SRW OG2/SRW OGs2[]
The Grungust Type-0 did not make an appearance in SRW OG2/OGs2, though the mecha was being kept at the Tesla Reich Institute during this period and had its Nuclear Fusion Reactor swapped out with a Plasma Reactor.
SRW OGs2.5/SRW OGG[]
The Grungust Type-0 would see action once again during the Bartoll Incident of OG2/OGs2, where swordsmanship advisor Rishuu Tougou boarded the mecha in order to defend the Tesla Reich Institute from Kyle Bean's squadron of Bartolls and Mironga, as well as to confront his former discipline Murata, who was also participating in the attack with his Guarlion Custom "Mumyou". It then fought through the showdown at Hellgate against the Valsion Kai Type-CF, before being returned to the Tesla Reich Institute for repairs. However it was soon plunged into combat once more when the Shura finally turned their eyes on the Institute, and thus later participated in the decisive battles against the Shura, Duminas' group, Dark Brain and Neo Granzon.

Armaments & Attacks[]
- Armor Breaker (アーマーブレイカー)
A special projectile launched from the Type-0's legs that reduces the opponent's armor durability. Status Weapon seen from OG1 to OGG.
- APTGM Launcher (APTGMランチャー)
Short for Anti-Personal Trooper Guided Missile Launcher. Anti-PT homing missile launchers stored within the yellow side panels on the Type-0's legs. Added from 2nd OG onwards.
- Boost Knuckle (ブーストナックル)
Shared weapon of the Grungust Series. The Type-0 launches its booster-propelled forearms at the enemy. Rishuu dubs this the Funshaken (噴射拳 | Propelling Fist).
- Hyper Blaster (ハイパーブラスター)
Shared weapon of the Grungust Series. A star-shaped beam ray (OG1&OG2) / powerful energy beam (OGs onwards) is unleashed from the Type-0's chest emitter. Rishuu dubs this the Chouzetsu Nessen-Hou (超絶熱線砲 | Transcendental Heat Ray Cannon).
- Reishiki Zankantou (零式斬艦刀 | Type-0 Ship-Cleaving Blade)
The Grungust's primary weapon, and by far its most distinctive feature. It is an 82-meter long gigantic broadsword designed in anticipation of countering colossal alien mobile weapons. It is capable of slicing even through battleships, true to its name. Attached to the sword are numerous thrusters and verniers which can either be used increase the destrutive force of the sword strikes or to aid in the sword's portability due to its immense size. In OG1/OG2, the Zankantou is delivered to the Type-0 externally through the use of the attached thrusters, but from OGs onwards the Type-0 is always seen carrying the sword on one hand (which it will temporarily discard when using other weapons).
- Zankantou - Shippuu Dotou (斬艦刀・疾風怒濤 | Ship-Cleaving Blade - Gale and Surging Waves)
- The Grungust Type-0's finisher from OG1 to OGG. In OG1/OG2, the Zankantou will be externally deployed to the Type-0 as it grabs hold of the sword and dashes forth, before delivering an upwards slash, slicing the opponent in half. In OGs/OGG, the Type-0 wields the Zankantou with both hands as it steadily closes in on the opponent, before dashing forwards and unleashing a ground-shattering vertical slash, with the sword's thrusters increasing the blade's impact force. Replaced in 2nd OG by Reishiki Zankantou - Shippuu Dotou.
- Reishiki Zankantou - Shippuu Jinrai (零式斬艦刀・疾風迅雷 | Type-0 Ship-Cleaving Blade - Gale and Thunder)
- New technique for the Type-0 added in 2nd OG. Holding the Zankantou horizontally, the Type-0 dashes forth using its back-mounted boosters and sword thrusters, as the Super Robot rams into the enemy, severing them in half with the Zankantou.
- Reishiki Zankantou - Shippuu Dotou (零式斬艦刀・疾風怒濤 | Type-0 Ship-Cleaving Blade - Gale and Raging Waves)
- The Grungust Type-0's new finishing technique from 2nd OG onwards. Wielding the Zankantou with both hands, the Type-0 leaps high into the air, before accelerating towards the target with its powerful booster array. Activating the Zankantou verniers, the Type-0 lands in front of the enemy and performs a shuddering downwards strike, before turning the blade sideways and slashing outwards, finishing the attack.

The Type-0 is protected from all Breaker type Status Weapons. Seen in OG1/OG2.
- Robot Block (ロボットブロック)
The Type-0 is protected from all mecha-related Status Weapons. Seen in OGs/OGG.
- Pilot Block (パイロットブロック)
The Type-0's pilot is protected from all pilot-related Status Weapons. Seen in OGs/OGG.
- Full Block (フルブロック)
The Type-0 is immune to all Status Weapons. Replaces Robot Block and Pilot Block altogether in 2nd OG.
