Starting from the powered suit that appeared in Hero Senki: Project Olympus, and later as a giant robot in The 4th Super Robot Wars named "Gespenst", the Gespenst Series is one of the most prominent unit lineage in Super Robot Wars with numerous variations spawned throughout various timelines. This page is dedicated for overall information about the Gespenst Series as well as other machines related to it.
Overview[]
In the Super Robot Wars series, the Gespenst is usually designed and used as a cheap, mass-production unit (similar to the RGM-79 GM in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise), although there have been several variants rolled out from the production line that are on par with other real robots.
List of Variations[]
Gespenst[]
Originally a powered suit from Hero Senki: Project Olympus and Battle Dodgeball II, it made its SRW debut in The 4th SRW, divided into 2 variations that the player can choose depending on their chosen route. In Compact 2, 3 prototype Gespensts were made, serving as the basis for the Gespenst Mk-II. It was later remanufactured by the Einst based on data gathered from the captured Weissritter. In OG, again, a total of 3 Gespenst prototype units were built as the first ever Personal Troopers. It was once again playable in Super Robot Wars T as the sub-hero's mecha.
- Gespenst Type-R (PTX-001): The "R" stands for "Rapidity", but could also stand for "Real", specializing in mobility and long-range combat. One of the 2 variations that the player can begin with in both 4th SRW and SRW F, with the Type-R for the Real Robot route. In OG, it is one of the three prototype Gespenst units and was given the model number PTX-001. Later upgraded into the Gespenst Type-RV.
- Gespenst Type-RV (PTX-001RV): In OG, it is an overhauled Gespenst Type-R and was given the model number PTX-001RV, as part of the Halloween Plan proposed by Gilliam Jaeger to upgrade the now-outdated Gespenst Series. Not present in the GBA OG games.
- Gespenst Type-S (PTX-002): The "S" stands for "Strength", but could also stand for "Super", specializing in power and close-range combat. One of the 2 variations that the player can begin with in both 4th SRW and SRW F, with the Type-S for the Super Robot route. In OG, it is one of the three prototype Gespenst units and was given the model number PTX-002. Its data was later used as base for the construction of the Gespenst Haken.
- Gespenst Type-T (PTX-003): The "T" stands for "Test". In OG, the PTX-003 Gespenst is one of the 3 prototype Gespenst units, also equipped with a Nuclear Fusion Reactor and TC-OS like its siblings. Although they were built to operate in all environments, the PTX-002 specialized in space combat while the PTX-003 specialized in ground combat, in anticipation of future operations. After receiving complaints from the TFF regarding the Gespensts' incapability of flight, weak armor and low accuracy, Mao Industries quickly set off to subjugate these limitations by upgrading the Gespenst units. In particular, the PTX-003 was modified back to that of the PTX-001's specifications, then installed with a specialized sensor device aimed at data-gathering, meant for the development of future units. Thus, it was codenamed "Type-T".
- Prof. Marion Radom later heavily customized the Type-T to have it compete in the TFF's next-generation mainline PT evaluation test, resulting in the birth of the Alteisen.
Gespenst Mk-II[]
The successor of the Gespenst, also debuting in The 4th SRW, although as a NPC only. It can be controlled by the player for a single stage only in 4th SRW S. In the F continuity, it was once again also divided into 2 variations, however only the Type-S can be obtained in F on Super Route under special conditions while the Type-R was an on-spot ally for the Real Route's final stage. Both Types were fully playable in F Final, serving as the protagonist mecha for the first half of the game. In OG, again, a total of 3 Gespenst Mk-II prototype units were built based on the first 3 Gespensts, as basis for a new line of mass-production units. In Impact, the Gespenst Mk-II was developed from the 3 prototype Gespenst units and around 30 machines were produced, however most of them were lost in previous wars, and were succeeded by the Alteisen and Weissritter. They were remanufactured by Einst based on data gathered from the captured Weissritter, replacing the Einst-made Gespensts in Compact 2.
- Gespenst Mk-II Type-R (PTX-007-01): Specializes in mobility, flight and long-range combat. On-spot participation for the final stage of SRW F only. Becomes the Real Robot main character's starting mecha in F Final. In OG, it is one of the three prototype Gespenst Mk-II units and was given the model number PTX-007-01.
- Gespenst Mk-II Type-S (PTX-007-02): Specializes in power, armor and close-range combat. It can be obtained early in SRW F in the Super Robot route if the player chooses the option "I have a lover" after the stage "Combine! Super Beast Machine God Dancouga". If the "No lover" option is chosen, it will not appear until SRW F Final, where it will serve as the Super Robot main character's starting mecha. In OG, it is one of the three prototype Gespenst Mk-II units and was given the model number PTX-007-02.
- Gespenst Mk-II Type-T (PTX-007-03): In OG, it is one of the three prototype Gespenst Mk-II units and was given the model number PTX-007-03. After testing processes were finished it was modified into the PTX-007-03C Weissritter as part of the ATX Project.
Mass-Production Gespenst Mk-II[]
Model code RPT-007. A mass-produced variant of the Gespenst Mk-II with high customizability, seen in the Alpha, Advance, MX and OG timelines.
- Mass-Production Gespenst Mk-II Type-TT (RPT-007TT): A white-colored OG-exclusive variant of the MP Gespenst Mk-II installed with a T-Link System for pilots with innate telekinesis abilities, which is utilized with the unit's remote-controlled T-Link Rippers. Only 3 units were built, respectively given model numbers RPT-007TT-01, RPT-007TT-02 and RPT-007TT-03. These special Gespensts were assigned to pilots Ryuusei Date, Aya Kobayashi and Brooklyn Luckfield. Unfortunately, Ryuusei's unit was destroyed during the Divine Wars.
- Mass-Production Gespenst Mk-II Kai (RPT-007K): In OG, it is an upgraded version of existing MP Gespenst Mk-II units and was given the model number RPT-007K, as part of the Halloween Plan proposed by Gilliam Jaeger to upgrade the now-outdated Gespenst Series. A total of 3 prototypes were built, followed by at least 5 more official production variants making an appearance.
Gesterben[]
Serial code: RPT-007ET. In the Super Robot Wars OG: Record of Fallin' Deceased X novel, it is a Personal Trooper created by Daniel Instruments based on the Mass-Production Gespenst Mk-II for the FDX Project, to create a small elite task force for the Earth Federation Army as well as to test out the various equipment and parts developed by the company. It has been drastically overhauled compared to its original base unit, with an excessively powerful generator, numerous hardpoints and a costly high-performance fire-control system, allowing for simultaneous operation of various weapons. Two units were made, one black and one white, model numbers RPT-007ET-01 and RPT-007ET-02, piloted by FDX Team members Riena Weaver and Vesna Skeritt. After the FDX Team faced off against a Uyudalo-class Suppression Battleship, both Gesterben units received severe damage and were upgraded into the Gesterben Kai.
- Gesterben Kai: The two damaged Gesterben units were upgraded into the Gesterben Kai, now equipped with a Tesla Drive which allows flight in the atmosphere. They serve as the main mechas of the second half of Record of FDX. It seems that more Gesterben Kais have also been built, as a "Unit 5" was given to Team Jerva pilot Selena Recital and debuted in Super Robot Wars OG: Dark Prison. Model number: RPT-007ET-01C; RPT-007ET-02C; RPT-007ET-05C.
Gespenst Haken[]
The Gespenst Haken is a Personal Trooper designed to be the personal mech of W00, a.k.a Haken Browning. In Super Robot Wars OG: The Moon Dwellers, Marion Radom discovers the plans for the Gespenst Haken in data left behind by Egret Fehu, taken from his time with the Shadow-Mirror. She decided to develop the weapon as part of the "Halloween Plan" with the Gespenst Type-S as base (hence the model number PTX-002C), and intended to have Kyousuke Nanbu pilot it. After the Night of Tragedy, Elzam V. Branstein would bring the Kurogane, to the Tesla-Leight Institute, intending to use it to bolster the fighting power of the Steel Dragon Squad. However, Fate intervened when Haken Browning, the Gespenst's intended pilot all along, is transported to the New AD Earth while returning Sanger Zonvolt after a previous adventure. Its data was used by the inhabitants of Formido Heim to create a three-meter tall combat machine that resembles the Haken, which would later be known as "Phantom". When debuting in The Moon Dwellers, it seems to have all the features of the Phantom, along with a scaled-up version of Haken Browning's personal weapon, the Night Fowl.
- Phantom: When the Trilobite-class ship Neverland, carrying several of the original W-Numbers ended up on the Endless Frontier, the inhabitants of the world of Formido Heim used data found on the vessel to create an autonomous combat machine in the shape of the Gespenst, but only about three meters in size. This machine, along with similar machines based on the Gespenst Mk-III and Gespenst Mk-IV were used in a war against the world of Elfetale, where it acquired the nickname "Phantom". After the war abruptly ended, the three machines disappeared, and for the next ten years were occasionally sighted across the worlds of the Frontier. The Phantom would eventually be discovered by Haken Browning, who engaged it in combat until it withdrew. It later encountered Cardia Basirissa and followed her commands for a time until a second encounter with Browning and his companions. During their last battle, the Phantom was badly damaged and captured by Browning's party. It was reprogrammed, and recognized Haken as it's operator. During a later confrontation with the Nacht and Abend, it would reprogram them to follow Haken as well. During an attempt to merge several worlds together, the Phantom went rogue again. Haken Browning, along with Kaguya Nanbu, Sanger Zonvolt, and a motley collection of soldiers, police officers, street fighters, Demons, Demon Hunters, and other adventurers, managed to bring the machine back under Haken's control while resolving the crisis. Once the worlds were returned to normal, Haken had the Phantom brought in for maintenance.
Miscellaneous[]
- Gespenst Mk-III/Gespenst Mk-III (Shadow Mirror): In OG, the Alteisen was supposed to take up this name after being officially adopted by the Earth Federation Army, however it was rejected due to resembling more of a customized PT than a mass-production general-purpose PT. However, in the parallel world of Shadow Mirror, it was adopted by the EFA, with one machine used by that side's Kyousuke (often known as Beowulf), leading the tactical suppression force Beowulves. It seems that both Beowulf and his Gespenst Mk-III were under influence from Einst, turning Beowulf into a twisted, merciless killing machine and giving the Mk-III powerful abilities like regeneration.
- Gespenst Mk-IV: In OG, it is the Weissritter's equivalent in the Shadow Mirror world, however it only exists as development plans.
