Not to be confused with the resembling Gespenst Mk-II Type-S
The Gespenst Mk-II Type-R (ゲシュペンストMk-II・タイプR) is a Banpresto Original Mecha debuting in Super Robot Wars F. It is a variant of the Gespenst Mk-II and part of the Gespenst Series, with its brother unit being the Gespenst Mk-II Type-S. It was developed based on data from the Gespenst Type-R. In OG, its data was further utilized to develop the Mass-Production Gespenst Mk-II.
Technological and Historical[]
One of the 2 main Gespenst Mk-II variations, the other unit being the Gespenst Type-S. It is the successor of the Gespenst Type-R. Overall, compared to the Mk-II Type-S, the Mk-II Type-R is more geared towards a Real Robot specification, equipped with long-range weapons and higher mobility but weaker armor. It also has a layer of Beam Coat to defend against beam weapons.
Classic Series[]
The Gespenst Mk-II Type-R was created by the protagonist's father for live tests related to the development of the Huckebein.
SRW F[]
First appearance. Appeared as an on-spot ally unit during the final stage only, piloted by Gilliam Jaeger.
SRW F Final[]
The Mk-II Type-R was finally given to the Real Route hero after the first stage by Gilliam, replacing their old Gespenst Type-R. It was active as the hero's primary mecha for the first half of the game until the debut of the Huckebein.
OG Series[]
The Gespenst Mk-II Type-R was developed based on the Gespenst Type-R as the next generation of the Gespenst Series, along with the Mk-II Type-S and Mk-II Type-T. It has high mobility and maneuverability, along with an enhanced thruster output, allowing for a higher jump duration. During the DC War, the Mk-II Type-R had its old reactor swapped out for a new Plasma Reactor, and was sent into combat as Gilliam Jaeger's personal machine.
SRW OG/SRW OGs1[]
For Ryuusei Route, the Mk-II Type-R was first seen during a test run in space, piloted by Special Tactics Guidance Corps member Elzam V. Branstein. It encountered 5 of the Aerogaters' Megillot units, which Elzam promptly defeated with the Type-R's bare hands, marking the second anti-alien battle fought by humanity. For Kyousuke Route, the Mk-II Type-R made its first appearance defending a space shuttle launching platform from DC forces alongside Radha Bairaban's Schutzwald, buying time until the Hiryuu Kai arrived. After defeating the Colony Integration Army alongside the Hiryuu Kai crew, Gilliam temporarily left the crew for a separate operation, bringing the Mk-II Type-R with him. For both routes, the machine wasn't seen again until Galuin Mehabel's assault on Izu Base, in which Gilliam regrouped with the Steel Dragon Squadron (also bringing along the Gespenst Type-R if secret conditions were fulfilled for Kyousuke Route).
SRW OG2/SRW OGs2[]
In OG2/OGs2, the PT was passed on to Viletta Vadim, while Gilliam returned to piloting his old Gespenst Type-R. It had a skirmish against the first wave of invading Inspector forces who assaulted Nevi'im, forcing Viletta and her Mk-II Type-R to flee the battlefield along with her teammates due to the Inspectors' overwhelming power. It was stationed on the Hiryuu Kai for the rest of the conflict.
SRW OGG[]
Following the eventual 4-way conflict of OG2/OGs2, the Gespenst Mk-II Type-R was stored away at the Tesla Reich Institute. It was picked up by the Steel Dragon Squadron along with other robots when the Squadron dropped by the Institute to prepare themselves for the oncoming conflict.
After OG Gaiden, the machine was never to be seen again, thought to be shelved away.
Armaments & Attacks[]
- Fighting (格闘 | Kakutou)
The Gespenst Mk-II Type-R engages in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. Only seen in OG1.
- Split Missile (スプリットミサイル)
Standard armament seen on the Gespenst Series, it is essentially a deployable missile container loaded with 6 missiles. After launching, the container's front cover is jettisoned and the missiles within fly towards their target. A pair of them can be mounted on the Gespenst's stabilizer pylon rack along with 2 Slash Rippers. Swappable Weapon in OG1.
- Mega Plasma Cutter (メガ・プラズマカッター)
An enhanced version of the standard Plasma Cutter, seen in OG1. Replaced with the Neo Plasma Cutter from OG2 onwards. Swappable Weapon in OG.
- Neo Plasma Cutter (ネオ・プラズマカッター)
An upgraded version of the Plasma Cutter and Mega Plasma Cutter, replacing the old one in OG2 and OGs. Swappable Weapon in OG.
- Mega Beam Rifle (メガ・ビームライフル)
A powerful beam rifle used by the Mk-II Type-R for ranged combat. Since it is a beam cannon miniaturized for PT use, rapid firing is not viable. Furthermore, due to the somewhat high cost, later developed MP Gespenst Mk-II units were often equipped with M950 Machine Guns instead. Swappable Weapon in OG.
- Twin Magna Rifle (ツイン・マグナライフル)
A rifle capable of firing both energy and physical rounds, originally designed for the R-Gun. It is a modified and downsized version of the R-2's Magna Beam Rifle. Swappable Weapon added in OG2/OGs2.
- Chakram Shooter (チャクラム・シューター)
A handheld launcher capable of firing a wire-guided circular sawblade. Swappable Weapon only seen equipped in OG2 since the Chakram Shooter became the Huckebein Mk-II's Fixed Weapon from OGs onwards.
- Slash Ripper (スラッシュリッパー)
Circular remote-controlled rotor weapons equipped with 3 folding blades, each installed with 3 vernier thrusters per side for a total of 6 maneuvering thrusters. They are deployed to slash enemies apart. A pair of them can be mounted on the inner side of the Gespenst Mk-II's stabilizer pylon rack along with 2 Split Missiles, though they do have dedicated containers. Swappable Weapon in OG.
- Graviton Launcher (グラビトン・ランチャー)
A toned-down version of the Huckebein Mk-II's G-Impact Cannon, allowing it to be used by other standard Personal Troopers. Swappable Weapon seen equipped in OG2 and OGs2 as a secret weapon, it also appears as a special attack in Super Robot Wars OG: Infinite Battle
