Dino Mech Gaiking (大空魔竜ガイキング Daikū Maryū Gaiking) is a Super Robot mecha anime series produced by Toei Animation, credited as an original idea by Akio Sugino. However, in reality, the original idea belongs to of Go Nagai when Toei deliberately took Nagai out of the credits in order to avoid the payment of royalties. Because of that, Nagai sued Toei and stopped further collaborations with Toei for a long time where the legality conflict lasted more than 10 years. In Naples, Italy; Nagai himself at the Comicon 2007 confirms that he was the creator of Gaiking.
It aired from April 1976 through January 1977 and consisted of 44 26-minute episodes. Gaiking was notable for being one of the few super robot series to take place in real places outside of Japan, and for being the first Super Robot series to have a mobile carrier for the chief robots. Gaiking was part of Jim Terry's Force Five anthology series.
In 2009 William Winckler Productions, known for the English dubbed version of Tekkaman the Space Knight, produced three all-new English language compilation feature films from the classic Gaiking series. The 100-minute films were written, produced and directed by William Winckler.

Plot[]
The story chronicled the battle between the crew of the semi-transformable carrier Daikū Maryū (also called the Kargosaur) and the Super Robot Gaiking against an invading race of aliens from the planet Zela, whose home planet is facing destruction by a black hole. Notable aspects of the series include the dinosaur-based designs of the Daikū Maryū and its support machines and the use of part of the carrier to form the main robot. The robot Gaiking was piloted by a baseball star named Sanshiro Tsuwabuki (Sanshiro's name was changed to Aries Astonopolis for the English version of the show with the carrier being called the "Great Space Dragon", a literal translation of "Daikū Maryū". Likewise, for the Latin America version the main character was called Brando Drummond and the carrier "Gran Dragon del Espacio"). It is most easily distinguished from other mecha by its skull-shaped golden torso, formed from the head of the Daikū Maryū, and its golden horns.
The leader of the alien villains was named Darius, and all of their ships and mecha were fish-shaped, which most likely inspired the Darius series of video games. Daikū Maryū Gaiking

Attacks:
Counter Cross: Gaiking uses the two "stars" of his knees to use them like a sword, throw them or attach them to a lance (the new series) is a basic attack.
Despair Sight: Eye laser attack, very destructive.
Volt Paralyzer: Electrical shock from Gaiking´s horns
Zaul Gaizer: Bicolor(red and blue) beam from the eyes of Daikyu Maryuu´s head(Gaikings breast).
Puncher Grind: A basic rocket punch. But it doesn't come back so it can only be used twice.
Zector Hook: A steel hook that is used to grab things, usually the enemy. It has been also used in combination with the puncher grind to grab the lost arm.
Killer Bite: Imitating Daikyu Maryuu, Gaiking can bite the enemy with the chest.
Hidro Blazer: The strongest and the most powerful attack of Gaiking. Emitting a fire blast from the eyes and mouth of the chest head.
Face Open: The special ability that consists of opening the face to show Gaiking's true power. In the old series, Gaiking loses the face-covering metal and gains two attacks, the Rapid Missiles which are fired from the face, and the Death Fire. In the new version, Gaikings chest face opens to provide him 4 times his flame output, giving him more speed strength and turning all his body into black, due to the heat and energy consumed, it can't be used without a time controller, his finishing command is Closed Face.

Despair Sight: Not only an eye laser attack Raiking uses his eyes and his finger beams to attack the enemy, also with his ability to separate his arms and control them Raiking can use this attack more efficiently than Gaiking.
- Vulking: The third red flame giant with earth and munition based attacks he has the most destructive power os the three giants instead of being slower than the other two. Pilots: Proist, Sauspeage and Li.
Legal Controversy[]
Toei Animation credited the show as being based on an original idea by Kunio Nakatani, Akio Sugino and Dan Kobayashi. However, in reality the original idea was of Go Nagai.[1] Toei deliberately took Nagai out of the credits in order to avoid the payment of royalties.[2] [3] Because of that, Nagai sued Toei and stopped further collaborations with Toei for a long time.[4] [5] The legal battle lasted more than 10 years.[3] Nagai himself confirmed that he was the creator of Gaiking at Comicon 2007 in Naples, Italy.[6] [7]
