The extroverted male protagonist of "GC" and "XO" is Akimi Akatsuki. In "GC," he is the heir of Mizuun Akatsuki, the president of Mogami Heavy Industries. Initially, he worked as a test pilot for the company's aircraft and was responsible for defending the surroundings. However, he strongly opposed his father's persistent insistence on him piloting a robot and even ran away from home at the beginning of the story. Despite this, he possesses the personality to stand up for what he believes in. He is a passionate individual who doesn't leave anyone in trouble alone.

- It is believed that his Japanese name, "赤月秋水" (Akatsuki Shusui), is thought to be inspired by the old Japanese military fighter plane "秋水" (Shusui).
- In accordance with the world's vision, the name was changed to "Akimi Akatsuki," and the voice actor was also replaced by Shunzo Miyasaka. This marks the first instance of a voice actor change for an original Super Robot Wars protagonist.
- Additionally, Koju Akatsuki, the female protagonist of "GC (XO)," appears as the twin sister, "Akemi Akatsuki." Moreover, the male and female protagonists are twins, similar to the main characters in "R."
